Prolonging the life of your Christmas tree

Prolonging the life of your Christmas tree

In our house, Christmas isn’t Christmas without the smell of pine needles spreading their seasonal cheer.  There really is nothing to beat a real Christmas tree and, provided you look after it properly, there’s no need to find yourself hovering up a never ending stream of needles come January…

Buy a good quality, fresh tree

If you’re buying a Christmas tree in Wimbledon head down to the Muddy Wellies plant stall.   We’ll be happy to see you and talk you through choosing your tree while you tuck into one of our tasty mince pies.  We have trees of all shapes and sizes, starting from 3-4ft Christmas trees at £25and extending right up to 7ft Christmas trees and beyond for £65.

We’re selling Christmas trees in Wimbledon that are guaranteed to be fresh and of the highest quality. Investing in a good tree can significantly extend the life of your Christmas tree.

Water, water, water

Research shows that the best way to prevent your Christmas tree from losing its needles is two give it plenty of water to drink.  Our Christmas trees in Wimbledon come from the best stock but even they need regularly drinks to stay healthy.

The forestry commission has shown that even Christmas trees with no roots can drink in water through their bark, just like cut flowers need water in a vase.

If you’re wondering just how to water a tree without leaving puddles all over the lounge, then consider one of our excellent Cinco tree stands. Every Christmas tree in Wimbledon should have one of these.  Designed in festive green, these plastic stands can hold either 4 litres (for 4-6ft trees, £20) or 7 litres of water (for 7-12ft trees,£25) ensuring that your trees stay moist without you needing to constantly top them up when you should really be writing cards and wrapping presents.

Cut the bottom off

Just before you take your Christmas tree indoors it’s a good idea to cut about 3cm off of the bottom of its trunk.  This creates a fresh cut that opens up the pores in the bark and helps the tree to take in water easily.  Factor this in when you’re measuring the height of your tree but, since we’re selling Christmas trees in Wimbledon of 7ft plus from our Muddy Wellies plant stall, it really shouldn’t stop you getting the size of tree you want.

Finally, think carefully before adding the decorations.  Hours of children pulling tinsel and baubles on and off will leave even the freshest of trees struggling to stay intact!
